Suryakumar was raised in Mumbai, with roots tracing to Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. He developed his game at the Dilip Vengsarkar Cricket Academy and represented Mumbai across all age-group tournaments, making his Ranji Trophy debut in 2010.
